A 26-year-old youth named Sagir was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight in the Nazirerbag area of Chun Kutia, South Keraniganj, Dhaka. The incident occurred around 9 AM on Saturday (September 13), and Sagir succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
According to locals, Sagir had left his home to head to his shop when he was attacked on Nazirerbag Road. Assailants suddenly ambushed him, striking his neck with a sharp weapon, causing him to collapse. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault. Despite efforts to rescue him, Sagir was found dead in a pool of blood.
Sagir’s wife, Tina, said, “He left home this morning to go to the shop. Shortly after, I received news that he had been killed. My husband had no enmity with anyone. I don’t understand why this happened.”
Reports indicate that Sagir had moved to a rented house in Nazirerbag from Dhaka’s Islampur four months ago due to his job, along with his wife and one child. The sudden killing has sparked widespread fear and panic among local residents.
Upon receiving the news, South Keraniganj Police Station recovered the body and initiated a preliminary investigation with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Syed Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Keraniganj Police Station, stated, “The incident appears to be a planned murder. We are thoroughly examining the victim’s identity and family background.”
He added, “We have started an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the killing may be linked to prior enmity or personal disputes. However, further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.”
