Elder Brother Killed by Younger Brother in Faridpur Over Electricity Bill Dispute

 

In a tragic incident in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur, a dispute over an electricity bill led to the death of Salauddin Sheikh (32), who was brutally attacked by his younger brother with a cleaver. Salauddin succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Saturday (September 13) while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The incident has been confirmed by the local Union Parishad Chairman and Bhanga Police Station.

According to police and local sources, Salauddin Sheikh, son of Shajahan Sheikh from Bhadrason village in Tuzarpur Union, had been living in Dhaka’s Dohar Upazila for several years before recently returning to their village. On Friday morning, a heated argument broke out between Salauddin and his younger brother, Alauddin, over an electricity bill. In a fit of rage, Alauddin attacked Salauddin with a cleaver, inflicting severe injuries. Locals rushed Salauddin to Bhanga Health Complex, but due to his critical condition, he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he passed away in the early hours of Saturday.

Bhanga Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraf Hossain said, “The incident stemmed from a family dispute, leading to the younger brother attacking the elder. Salauddin died while receiving treatment in Dhaka. The body has not yet been brought back to the area, and since the family is in Dhaka, no case has been filed yet.”

Local Union Parishad Chairman Oliur Rahman stated, “The family is impoverished. The dispute over the electricity bill on Friday morning escalated, and Alauddin, in a rage, attacked his elder brother with a cleaver, causing severe injuries to his abdomen. Salauddin died while under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”
