The deceased was identified as Md. Abdul Kuddus, aged 35, a resident of Kadirganj village in Sakhhipur Thana, Shariatpur. He lived with his family in a rented house in the Sattala area of Mahmudpur, Siddhirganj.
Locals reported that despite the ban on battery-powered autorickshaws on the highway, these vehicles operate daily, posing significant risks. This mismanagement is said to be the cause of such tragic accidents.
Inspector Md. Julhas Uddin from the Shimrail Highway Police Camp stated that the police recovered the body of the autorickshaw driver from the accident site and sent it to the morgue. The damaged autorickshaw is in police custody.
Siddhirganj Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahinur Alam said, “Battery-powered autorickshaws are prohibited on highways. However, they enter the highway through various side roads, which leads to such accidents.”
