Two Killed in Gazipur as Panchagarh Express Collides with Drum Truck

 A tragic collision between the Dhaka-bound Panchagarh Express train and a drum truck in Gazipur’s Dhirashram Dakhinkhan area claimed the lives of the truck’s driver and helper. The accident occurred around 11:30 PM on Tuesday (September 3).

The deceased have been identified as Babul Khan (55), son of Shah Alam from Abdullahpur, Kamarpara, Uttara, Dhaka, and the owner of the drum truck, and the driver, Ujjwal Hossain (37), son of Kurman Ali from Payla Purbo Para, Ghior, Manikganj. The incident was confirmed by Md. Nadiruzzaman, in-charge of Joydebpur Railway Police Outpost.

According to local and police sources, the accident took place on the Dhaka-Rajshahi rail route in Dhirashram’s Dakhinkhan area when a drum truck got stuck while attempting to cross the railway tracks around 11:30 PM. At that moment, the Panchagarh Express, traveling from Panchagarh to Dhaka, collided with the truck, causing it to overturn by the roadside. The truck driver, Ujjwal Hossain, was killed on the spot. The helper and truck owner, Babul Khan, was critically injured and rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Md. Nadiruzzaman, in-charge of Joydebpur Railway Police Outpost, stated, “Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies, which were sent to the hospital morgue. Train operations have now returned to normal. Legal actions will be taken regarding the incident.” The tragedy has cast a shadow of grief over the local community.
