In Barma, under the Barmi Union of Sreepur Upazila in Gazipur, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a suspected drug dealer named Mosharraf with weapons. However, locals, alleging that he was framed with illegal arms, blockaded RAB’s vehicle, leading to a tense standoff. The situation escalated, requiring intervention from the police and army to restore order.The incident, which unfolded on Sunday (September 7) from 5:30 PM to around 8:45 PM, caused widespread panic in the Barma area. According to eyewitnesses and local traders, around 5:30 PM, a RAB team detained Mosharraf, identified as a notorious drug dealer, and took him into their vehicle. Locals claimed that RAB attempted to frame him with illegal weapons. As the news spread, enraged residents and traders surrounded the RAB vehicle, holding it under siege for hours.
Upon receiving the news, a team from Sreepur Police Station arrived at the scene but failed to control the situation and was also detained by the locals. Additional RAB vehicles reached the spot but faced the wrath of the crowd. Eventually, around 7:30 PM, army personnel arrived, negotiated with the locals, and managed to bring the situation under control. They dispersed the crowd using batons and detained 10-12 individuals, who were then taken away in RAB vehicles.
No official statement has been received from RAB or the police regarding the incident. However, the event sparked significant tension and fear in the Barma area.
