Hossain Mia, son of the late Lal Mahmud from Kalma village in Dhala Union, Tarail Upazila, was charged under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act (Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Daman Ain). According to the case details, the victim, a student of a local educational institution, used a route near Hossain’s house to travel to and from school. On March 2, while returning home, Hossain ambushed her near an abandoned pond, restrained her, and raped her. He subsequently threatened to kill her and her parents if she disclosed the incident. The accused is alleged to have raped the minor multiple times under similar threats.
On Saturday, the victim visited a local private hospital with her guardian for medical attention. An ultrasound revealed she was 25 weeks pregnant, prompting her to disclose the ordeal to her family. Her father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Sunday morning, leading to Hossain’s arrest by 1 PM and his subsequent presentation in court.
Tarail Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sabbir Rahman stated, “Following the filing of the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, we promptly arrested Hossain Mia and handed him over to the Kishoreganj court.” Advocate Mosharraf Hossain, Special Public Prosecutor of the Kishoreganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, confirmed that the court ordered Hossain’s detention in jail.
