Nahiyan Azam Evan (25), a notorious ‘teen gang leader,’ was brutally hacked to death by rivals in Narayanganj’s Fatullah area. The incident occurred on Sunday (September 7) around 8:30 PM near Osmani Stadium in the Isdair area.
Evan, son of Azam Babu from Isdair’s Sugandha residential area, was known as a close associate of Ajmeri Osman, son of the late parliament member Nasim Osman. According to police and local sources, Evan had multiple criminal cases against him, including charges of murder, robbery, extortion, and drug-related offenses. Recently, he was named as an accused in a case filed at Paltan Police Station for participating in a procession of the banned Awami League in Dhaka’s Gulistan area.
Locals reported that Evan had a longstanding feud with Pagla Saiful, his brother Babu, and Shafiqul Islam from Isdair’s railway slum, primarily over drug trafficking and other issues. The rivalry led to multiple clashes between the groups. About a month ago, Evan allegedly labeled Saiful and his associates as ‘thieves’ and assaulted them, prompting Saiful’s group to seek revenge.
Evan’s elder brother Rafin stated that around 8:30 PM, Evan was returning home on a motorcycle when a group of 8-10 individuals, including Shafiqul, Saiful, and Babu, ambushed him near the stadium. They attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. A local named Sharif rushed him to Khanpur Hospital in Narayanganj, and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 11 PM.
Evan’s father, Azam Babu, demanded, “I want the harshest punishment—death penalty—for those who killed my son.”
Police records show that Evan was arrested on December 4, 2020, with yaba pills by Fatullah Police Station. On March 11, 2022, he was arrested again with eight accomplices and homemade weapons. He was rearrested on May 19 of the same year by Fatullah police. Most recently, on December 13, 2023, RAB arrested him along with five associates.
Fatullah Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sharif ul Islam confirmed that Evan’s body is at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue. The body will be handed over to his family after an autopsy. A case is being prepared, and efforts are underway to apprehend those involved in the killing.
