In a shocking incident in Ghoraghat Upazila, Dinajpur, a couple posing as passengers drugged an easybike driver and stole his vehicle and mobile phone. Police have arrested one member of the robbery gang along with the stolen easybike.
The arrested individual, Shafiul Islam (36), son of the late Ansar Ali from Moglispur in Singra Union, was apprehended on Tuesday night (September 2) from Bahalgacha in Dhunot Upazila, Bogura.
According to police sources, on August 27, easybike driver Apel Uddin set out for work. A couple, disguised as passengers, hired his easybike to visit Swapnapuri Park. On their return, they befriended the driver and offered him a cigarette laced with a sedative. They later abandoned the unconscious driver near a dirt road behind the Eidgah field in Futani Bazar and fled with the easybike, worth 2.8 lakh taka, and an Android phone. Following the incident, the easybike owner filed a case against three individuals at Ghoraghat Police Station.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Bahalgacha, Dhunot Upazila, Bogura, and arrested Shafiul Islam. Based on his information, the stolen easybike was recovered from his in-laws’ residence in the same area.
Ghoraghat Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Haque stated that Shafiul Islam will be produced before the Dinajpur court on Wednesday. Operations to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
