Police have unraveled the mystery behind the murder of Dr. AHM Amirul Islam, whose body was found with his throat slit at Janseba Hospital in Natore. The killing stemmed from a love triangle involving a nurse at the hospital, leading to the arrest of Dr. Amirul’s sacked personal assistant, Asadul Ali Asad. Natore Police Superintendent Mohammad Amzad Hossain disclosed these details during a press briefing at Janseba Hospital on Tuesday (September 2) evening at around 6:00 PM.
The arrested individual, Asadul Ali Asad, is the son of Elias Akand from Elach Fakirpara village in Dhunot Upazila, Bogura. The deceased, Dr. Amirul Islam, was a resident of Banshbaria village in Singra Upazila and the owner and director of Janseba Hospital.
According to police and local sources, Dr. Amirul was at his privately-owned Janseba Hospital on Sunday night. On Monday morning, after 10:00 AM, hospital staff grew anxious when they received no response from his room. Breaking open the door, they found Dr. Amirul’s body with his throat slit. Police were informed and recovered the body. On Tuesday night, Dr. Amirul’s wife, Tasmin Sultana, filed a murder case against unknown individuals at Natore Sadar Police Station. Using technology, police arrested Asadul Ali Asad from Elach Fakirpara village in Dhunot Upazila, Bogura.
During interrogation, Asad revealed that he joined Janseba Hospital three years ago. He developed a romantic relationship with a nurse at the hospital, and they planned to marry this year. However, when rumors surfaced about a relationship between the nurse and Dr. Amirul, a confrontation and physical altercation occurred between Asad and Dr. Amirul on August 25, leading to Asad’s dismissal. Enraged, Asad returned to his village in Bogura and planned to take revenge on Dr. Amirul.
Asad confessed to purchasing a burqa and two knives from a shop in Bogura. On August 31, he arrived in Natore, wore the burqa, and hid under the bed in Dr. Amirul’s rest room at the hospital. After 1:00 AM, when Dr. Amirul fell asleep after taking sleeping pills, Asad emerged and slit his throat. He fled the hospital around 4:00 AM, wearing the burqa, and returned to Bogura.
Superintendent Amzad Hossain stated that Asad admitted to the love triangle involving the nurse during initial questioning and confessed that the murder was an act of revenge. The two knives used in the crime were recovered from a roadside in Singra Upazila, but the burqa, which Asad discarded in a river, remains unrecovered. Others detained in connection with the case are currently in police custody for further questioning.
