Doctor Accused of Assaulting Two Traffic Police Officers in Dhaka’s Khilgaon

A doctor from Mugda Medical College Hospital, Mohammad Anwar Hossain, has been accused of assaulting two traffic police officers in the Khilgaon rail crossing area of Dhaka over a delay in allowing his vehicle to pass. He has been detained and handed over to the Khilgaon police station.

The incident occurred around 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The injured officers, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Robiul Hasan and Constable Robiul Islam, were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

According to sources from the Motijheel Traffic Division, traffic signals were being managed as per standard procedure at the Khilgaon rail crossing. One side of the traffic was stopped to allow vehicles from the other side to pass. During this time, Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, who was driving a vehicle, became agitated and accused the traffic police of not allowing vehicles to pass without bribes. This led to a verbal altercation with the officers. Before leaving, he reportedly threatened the police, saying he would “deal with them.”

Shortly afterward, Dr. Anwar returned with 10-12 individuals on four to five motorcycles and allegedly attacked the two traffic police officers. ASI Robiul Hasan and Constable Robiul Islam were injured due to punches and kicks.

Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Traffic Division, Dewan Jalal Uddin Chowdhury, stated that the attackers initially kicked Constable Robiul in the groin. Both Constable Robiul and ASI Robiul Hasan, who came to his aid, were severely beaten. Legal action will be taken regarding the incident.

Police reported that the detained doctor is currently at Khilgaon police station. Efforts are underway to identify the other individuals involved in the attack.
