Police in Pekua Upazila of Cox’s Bazar recovered the decomposed body of a woman from a house in the Napitar Diya area of Magnama Union. The recovery was made on Tuesday night (September 9, 2025), with the assistance of local residents.
The deceased has been identified as Sabina Akter Jannat, also known as Juli, aged 45. She was the daughter of Saidul Haque from Sikdar Para, Chambal Union, Banskhali Upazila, Chittagong. For a long time, she had been living alone in a secluded house owned by Ehteshamul Haque, son of Delowar Hossain, in Napitar Diya. Her parents passed away many years ago, and her only brother resides elsewhere.
Local Union Parishad member Nur Muhammad stated that the police arrived at the scene after receiving a call through the emergency hotline 999 and recovered the body, which was then taken to the police station.
According to locals, a neighboring woman entered the house to deliver vegetables. Finding the front door locked, she called out to Juli through a partially open back door. Receiving no response, she entered and found Juli lying inside a mosquito net, wrapped in a blanket. Upon approaching, she noticed a foul odor and alerted the community.
Neighbors mentioned that Sabina Akter was slightly mentally unstable but had been seen moving around normally as recently as three days prior. In her childhood, she studied at her maternal grandparents’ house in Magnama and was living alone in that house at the time of her death.
Pekua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sirajul Mostafa said, “The body has been sent to the morgue at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. The exact cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is received.”
