The deceased were identified as Sanjay Mondal (26) and his wife Shrabonti Bhattacharya (21) of Dumain village in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur. Sanjay worked at a garment factory in Savar, Dhaka, while Shrabonti was a homemaker.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the couple lost control of their motorcycle while crossing a speed breaker and fell onto the road. A Daulatdia-bound vehicle ran them over. Shrabonti died instantly, while Sanjay was rushed to Goaland Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. He was later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka around 11 pm.
On Friday morning (September 5), Shrabonti’s body was handed over to her family from Ahladipur Highway Police Station and brought to their village for burial. The couple, married for about eight years, had no children.
Officer-in-Charge Shamim Sheikh of Ahladipur Highway Police Station said that the motorcycle involved has been seized. Efforts are underway to identify the unidentified vehicle responsible and take legal action.
