The arrests were confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police Arif Muhammad Shakur during a press briefing held at the Police Superintendent’s office on Friday (September 5) at 11:30 am.
The arrestees are Md. Kawser, Ashish Gain, and Shawkat Ahmed Ripon alias Sohag — residents of different areas in Patuakhali and Barguna districts.
Police said Kawser was first arrested on Thursday afternoon from the Shyamkur border area in Jhenaidah with the help of technology. Based on his information, Sohag was arrested from a slum at Technical Moor in Dhaka. Later, Ashish Gain was arrested from Kalapara town.
According to the case statement, on the night of July 14, the accused broke into the house of an expatriate in TiaKhali area of Kalapara. They looted Tk 50,000 in cash, 13 tolas of gold ornaments, and a mobile phone. Before leaving, they confined the expatriate’s wife in a room and gang-raped her.
The following day, a case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
