In connection with the incident, police have detained the tea garden’s assistant manager, Kapil Uddin Liton, and workers Niranjan Gowala and Akkel Pradhan.
Local residents reported that a group of individuals detained and beat Imam in a room at the tea garden around 3:00 AM on Monday. Upon receiving the news on Tuesday morning, Imam’s relatives and over a hundred locals gathered at the tea garden. When police arrived to recover the body, they faced resistance from the crowd, who refused to let them leave without detaining those involved. Eventually, police detained three individuals from the tea garden.
Gowainghat Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Mohammad Tofayel Ahmad stated that the motive behind the killing could be multifaceted. “Some claim Imam was beaten to death on suspicion of theft, while others suggest it may be related to a woman,” he said.
Police are investigating the matter. The body, which showed injury marks on the head and other parts, has been sent for further examination. No case has been filed yet in connection with the incident.
