Tragic End to TikTok Love Story: Youth Commits Suicide in Sirajganj

A young man, Golam Ferdous Durlabh, aged 24, from Lairihat Patilbhasa village in Baliadangi Upazila, Thakurgaon, took his own life after traveling approximately 300 kilometers to Kamarkhand Upazila in Sirajganj. The incident followed the news that a young woman, with whom he had developed a romantic relationship through TikTok, was set to marry someone else. Durlabh consumed poison in front of the woman’s house and later died while receiving treatment.

Durlabh, a graduate student, traveled to the woman’s residence in Sirajganj after learning of her impending marriage. On Tuesday (August 5), his body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination. Prior to this, Durlabh’s family, with police assistance, visited Chaubari to speak with the woman, her mother, and local residents.

It is reported that the woman, a college student pursuing an honors degree, fled with her parents after the incident. Later, in the presence of police, she faced Durlabh’s relatives and stated, “My parents arranged my marriage elsewhere. Even after knowing this, Durlabh didn’t take it seriously.”

Durlabh’s brother-in-law, Sajib Hossain, and brother, Wazedur Rahman, shared over the phone that the family is devastated. They have not yet decided whether to file a formal complaint with the police.

Kamarkhand Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rauf confirmed the suicide, stating that an unnatural death case has been registered. Sirajganj Sadar Police Station OC Md. Mokhlesur Rahman added that the post-mortem has been completed following the inquest. He noted, “Once the autopsy report is received, the family can file a complaint at the police station if they believe anyone incited the suicide.”

The incident has left the local community in shock, with authorities continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
