Woman Killed, 12 Injured in Sreepur as Laguna Crashes into Electric Pole

 In Sreepur, Gazipur, a laguna driven by a man lost control and crashed into an electric pole, killing his wife who was seated beside him. At least 12 workers, including the driver, were injured in the accident. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday (August 22) on the Mawna-Bormi regional road in Ansar Tepirbari village, Telihati Union.

The deceased, Nomita Rani (27), was a resident of Bormi Union in Sreepur and a worker at Mosharraf Composite Textile Mills. All the victims were workers at the same factory.

Eyewitness Md. Babul Miya said that the laguna was carrying workers from Bormi Bazar to the Mosharraf Spinning Mills factory in Gazipur Sadar Upazila. Upon reaching Tepirbari in Telihati Union, the vehicle lost control and collided forcefully with an electric pole by the roadside, getting stuck.

ATM Mahmudul Hasan, Warehouse Inspector of Sreepur Fire Service, stated, “After receiving the information, we reached the spot around 5:00 AM and began rescue operations. The laguna was severely damaged after hitting the electric pole. Nomita Rani, a female worker seated in the front, was trapped and later recovered dead. At least 12 workers were injured in the accident.”

Sreepur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Abdul Barik said that the body of the deceased female worker was recovered from the scene and sent to the morgue of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
