In Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, a fire caused by a gas leak in a residence has left nine members of the same family severely injured. The victims, including women and children, have been admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment. The incident occurred around 7:00 AM on Saturday (August 23).
The injured are identified as Tanjil Islam (40), his wife Asma Begum (35), their children Tisha (17) and Arafat (15), Hasan (35), his wife Salma Begum (32), their children Muntaha (11), Jannat (4), and Imam Uddin (1 month). Asma and Salma are sisters, and their mother, Tahera Khatun (60), was also injured in the fire. All are receiving treatment at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Rakibul Islam, the younger brother of Hasan, stated that the families of Asma and Salma, along with their mother, were living in a rented tin-shed house. A gas pipeline running alongside the house leaked, causing gas to spread inside. The fire broke out at night, engulfing the house and injuring everyone inside.
Upon receiving the news, the victims were rescued and taken to the National Burn Institute in Dhaka in the early hours. Dr. Sultan Mahmud Sikdar, the acting residential surgeon at the institute, reported that nine individuals were admitted. The extent of their burns is being assessed, but all are in critical condition.
