According to family members, the incident involving Sadiya occurred around 3 AM on Tuesday. The child was sleeping under a mosquito net with her parents when her mother felt something cold touch her foot and alerted Suruj Miya. Upon lighting a torch, they discovered a snake inside the net. Family members attempted to kill the snake, but it escaped into a gap near a refrigerator. When Sadiya began feeling unwell, she was first taken to a local mosque’s cleric, who claimed there was no venom. As her condition worsened, she was taken to a local practitioner, Neyamul, in Talsar village. After a nebulizer treatment failed to improve her condition, he advised taking her to a hospital. The family then consulted a local snake charmer, Bahar Ali, who also recommended hospital treatment. Sadiya was rushed to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex, where she was declared dead by the attending doctor around 6 AM.
Dr. Golam Mahbub of Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex stated, “The child, Sadiya, was brought to the hospital around 5:45 AM. She was already deceased upon arrival.”
In a separate incident, Hasibul Hasan Joni was bitten by a snake late at night. His family initially took him to a local snake charmer. He was later admitted to Kaliganj Health Complex, where doctors administered antivenom. However, his condition deteriorated, and he was referred to Jessore Hospital. Hasibul passed away around 7 AM while being transported to Jessore.
