The deceased children have been identified as Nusaiba (5), daughter of Md. Shah Alam, and her cousin Md. Yamin (5), son of Salauddin, both residents of Chengakandi village.
According to local residents, the two children were playing near their home on Sunday afternoon. At some point, they fell into the nearby Chengakandi River. When the children could not be found and no response was heard, family members began searching for them. Later, a local neighbor, Jahanara Begum, went to the river to wash dishes and spotted Yamin floating in the water. She alerted the community, and locals subsequently recovered Nusaiba’s body from the river as well, both in a deceased state.
Rashedul Hasan Khan, the Inspector (Investigation) of Sonargaon Police Station, stated that he had spoken with the duty officer, and no formal complaint had been lodged regarding the incident. He added that if a complaint is received, necessary legal action will be taken following an investigation.
