Eight of the injured were treated at Patiya Upazila Health Complex. They are Mahfuz Alam (34), Md. Elias (42), Md. Montaz (32), Shah Alam (35), Ali Ahmed (70), Rajib De (34), Mahiuddin (40), and Amit De (20). Among them, Shah Alam, Ali Ahmed, Mahiuddin, Amit De, and Mahfuz Alam were transferred to Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital in critical condition.
Dr. Sadia Sultana, a medical officer at Patiya Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the incident, stating, “Eight of the injured were brought to the hospital. Five of them were referred to CMC Hospital, while the remaining three were discharged after receiving primary treatment.”
According to eyewitnesses, a bus carrying students from BGC Trust University lost control while speeding around a turn and collided with a Chattogram-bound Hanif bus. This caused one of the buses to veer off the road and overturn into a ditch, injuring at least 28 passengers from both buses.
Salauddin Shahriar, Deputy Registrar of BGC Trust University, stated, “None of the injured admitted to BGC Trust Medical College are in critical condition.”
Sarwar Kamal, Assistant Proctor of the university, added, “Twenty of the injured received primary treatment at Trust Medical College, while a few others were sent to Patiya Upazila Health Complex.”
Jasim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Patiya Highway Police Station, reported that the accident occurred as the bus was traveling from Patiya to Chattogram city. It was struck by another bus, causing it to fall off the road. Police found no one at the scene upon arrival but recovered the wrecked bus. Necessary legal actions will be taken regarding the incident.
