The victim, Raja Miah, a timber businessman and president of Balirtek Bazar Traders’ Association, claimed that a gang of robbers looted approximately 18 bhori of gold ornaments and 12 lakh taka in cash. His son, Sanjid Ahmed Sumon, is the general secretary of Bhararia Union Awami League and has been abroad since August 5 last year.
Raja Miah told reporters, “Around 3:30 AM, 12 to 14 masked robbers broke into our house by cutting the grill. They entered our room on the second floor of the two-story house and held everyone hostage at gunpoint with local weapons. They broke the almirah and looted 18 bhori of gold ornaments and cash meant for my timber business.”
He added, “The robbers took 12 lakh taka from my timber business. They took everything. I will file a written complaint at the police station regarding this incident.”
In a WhatsApp call, Sanjid Ahmed Sumon said, “The robbers held my wife and children hostage with local weapons like choppers. They threatened to harm anyone who screamed. They then fled with the gold ornaments and cash.”
Upon receiving the news, Manikganj Sadar Police Station OC SM Amanullah visited the scene around 10:30 AM on Wednesday. He stated, “The incident will be investigated with utmost seriousness.”
The robbery has created a sense of panic in the area. The affected family has demanded swift justice and enhanced security.
