In a heartbreaking incident, Nasrin (16), a class 9 student, took her own life by hanging in her home in Raghunathpur village, Sekhmatia Union, Nazirpur Upazila, Pirojpur, on Tuesday (August 19) afternoon. Nasrin, a student of Haque Secondary School, was the daughter of day laborer Eskendar Miya.
Before her death, Nasrin left behind a one-and-a-half-page poignant suicide note, in which she apologized to her family and described her feelings of failure. According to her nephew, Nasrin had been in a long-term relationship with a boy named Panna Shikdar, a resident of Ward No. 1, son of Latif Shikdar. Panna had promised to marry her and engaged in a physical relationship but later refused to marry her, leading Nasrin to take this extreme step.
Nasrin’s sister-in-law revealed that Panna had been harassing Nasrin for a long time, which prevented her from attending school. He also verbally abused her and refused to marry her, pushing her to this tragic decision.
In her suicide note, Nasrin wrote, “The reason for my death is Panna Shikdar, the only son of Latif Shikdar. He used me under the pretense of marriage. My last wish is that he receives such punishment that no one else’s life is ruined like mine. I couldn’t keep my promises to my father and siblings. Please forgive me.” She further wrote, “Mother, what does it matter if I’m gone? You still have other children. Think of it as if I’ve gone to my in-laws’ house. Don’t cry at all. I had too much pain in my heart, and I couldn’t bear it anymore.”
Nazirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan stated that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and legal action will be taken. A case related to the incident is currently in process.
