Shyamoli's mother, widow Manjuara Begum from Ahmedpur Nowpara village in Boraigram, Natore, broke down in tears while recounting the family's ordeal. "Her parents separated when she was young, so I raised her alone. She supported us with her job earnings, covering our expenses and her daughter Jui's education. That lecherous Sujan killed my daughter. Jui has no father, and now she's lost her mother too. I'm nearing the end of my life—who will look after little Jui now?" Manjuara lamented.
Local residents shared details of Shyamoli's turbulent life. Known for her beauty, she married Abdul Jalil from Bagmara in Rajshahi during her higher secondary studies. The couple lived happily with their daughter Jui until Jalil arranged a job for her at a showroom in Rajshahi city. There, she met Sujan, a manager from Pabna, who ensnared her in a romantic affair. Promising marriage, he convinced her to divorce Jalil. Sujan then married her in a religious ceremony without official registration and started a family life.
However, Shyamoli soon discovered Sujan's secret: he already had another wife and two children. Enraged, she left him and returned to her father's home. Earlier this year, she remarried in her native Rajapur village, but Sujan, furious, secretly sent intimate videos of their past relationship to her new husband and relatives. This led to the breakdown of her second marriage just two months in.
Devastated but determined, Shyamoli moved to Dhaka for a job while resuming her studies. She recently appeared for her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams from Ahmedpur College. On August 5, after the exams, she left Jui with her mother and returned to her job in Dhaka.
Sujan, meanwhile, obtained her phone number through deceit and lured her to Kamalapur Station on Monday, threatening to make the intimate videos viral. Fearing blackmail, Shyamoli went to meet him, where he attacked and killed her.
A visit to Shyamoli's family home on Wednesday revealed a community shrouded in grief. Little Jui, speechless from the loss of her mother, has left relatives struggling to console her. Shyamoli's cousin's wife, former Upazila Women's Vice Chairman Chameli Khatun, said, "Her father passed away just a year ago. Her only brother lives separately with his family. Shyamoli's earnings supported her mother and Jui. Now, no one is left to care for Jui. We demand exemplary justice for this murder."
Authorities have launched an investigation, but Sujan's whereabouts remain unknown. The incident highlights the dangers of blackmail and domestic abuse, prompting calls for stricter measures against such crimes.
