A tragic incident occurred in Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram, where a housewife named Jarina Begum (40) died due to electrocution while inspecting a neighbor's new auto-rickshaw. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, August 16, in Pashchim Chhat Gopalpur village of Tilai Union. Jarina was the wife of Safar Uddin, a resident of the same village.
According to Kamruzzaman, the chairman of Tilai Union Parishad, Jarina Begum’s neighbor, Ariful Islam, purchased a new auto-rickshaw on Friday night. He plugged the vehicle into an electrical line for charging and went to sleep. On Saturday morning, Jarina went to see the auto-rickshaw and was electrocuted upon touching it, causing her to collapse. She was rushed to Bhurungamari Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead.
Al Helal Mahmud, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhurungamari Police Station, confirmed that police were dispatched to the scene. As no formal complaint was lodged, a report was prepared, and the body was handed over to the family. An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed in connection with the incident.
