Three Killed, Including Woman and Child, in Ashulia Truck Accident; Protests Erupt

In a tragic incident in Dhaka’s Ashulia, a truck ran over an auto-rickshaw on the Nabinagar-Chandra highway, killing three people, including a child, a woman, and a man. Another person was seriously injured. The accident occurred around 9:30 PM on Sunday (August 3) near the Baipail Central Mosque.

Following the incident, local residents blocked the road in protest. Police intervened and managed to calm the situation, clearing the road shortly after.

The identities of the victims could not be immediately confirmed. CCTV footage revealed that an auto-rickshaw, traveling in the wrong direction from Baipail towards the EPZ, attempted to navigate through the middle of the road to avoid water on the side. The rickshaw fell into a pothole and overturned, causing the driver and passengers to fall under the rear wheels of an oncoming truck.

One person died at the scene, and three others were critically injured. They were rushed to the local Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College, where doctors declared them dead.

Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saleh Ahmed stated that the auto-rickshaw, carrying three passengers, was traveling in the wrong direction when it fell into a pothole and overturned, getting crushed under the truck. Efforts are underway to identify the victims.
