A 32-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in a cinematic style near Konapara Police Outpost in Dhaka’s Demra. The perpetrators reportedly held her captive, extorted BDT 31,000 through bKash as ransom, and snatched her mobile phone.On Saturday (August 2), the victim filed a case at Demra Police Station against four unidentified men and a woman named Sumi alias Sima (22), accused of deception. The incident occurred on August 1, when the victim was lured from Mirpur under the pretext of an online job offer. The accused are currently at large. On Saturday night, police sent the victim to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
According to Demra Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mahmudur Rahman, the victim’s acquaintance, Sima, contacted her with a job offer. On August 1, an unknown individual called and asked her to come to a staff quarter for the job. Upon arriving in the afternoon, she was taken to a hotel for a meal. Later, she was taken to the second floor of a building near Konapara Police Outpost, where three men aged between 25 and 30 were waiting.
The OC further stated that the victim was told the job involved acting in a short video depicting a rape scene. When she followed instructions to dishevel her hair, the four men tied her hands and feet and took turns raping her from 5 PM to 9 PM. Afterward, they extorted BDT 31,000 via bKash from her and her mother and stole an Android phone worth BDT 30,000. That night, she was released but threatened with death if she disclosed the incident. The police are investigating the case and conducting operations to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
