Crackdown on Environmental Pollution: Seizure of Polythene and Fines Imposed

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has conducted extensive operations against banned polythene and environmental pollution across the capital and other parts of the country.

On Sunday (August 3), raids in Dhaka’s Chakbazar, Imamganj, Sowarighat, and Lalbagh areas led to the seizure of 5,500 kg of banned polythene. During these operations, owners of super shops and stores were warned against using prohibited polythene.

Additionally, in Khulna and Sirajganj, the Department of Environment’s mobile courts conducted two operations targeting the production and marketing of banned polythene. Under Section 6(ka) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (amended in 2010), two cases were filed, resulting in fines totaling BDT 10,000.

In Tangail, an enforcement operation by the Department of Environment demolished an illegal lead battery factory. Furthermore, in Dhaka’s West Agargaon and Ramna areas, mobile courts addressing air pollution caused by construction materials filed three cases and collected fines amounting to BDT 30,000.

The Department of Environment has announced that these anti-pollution operations will continue in the future.
