Three Injured in Animal Attack in Madarganj, Jamalpur; Panic Grips Village

Three people were injured in an attack by an unidentified wild animal in Fazilpur village, Charpakerdah Union, Madarganj Upazila, Jamalpur. The incidents occurred sequentially on Saturday morning (August 16), causing widespread panic among the villagers. Fearing further attacks, parents are rushing their children indoors before dusk.

The injured individuals are Abed Pramanik (56), Roksana (34), and Sukur Ali (45), all residents of Fazilpur village. They received primary treatment at the Madarganj Upazila Health Complex and are now recovering at their homes.

Roksana recounted, “Around 10 a.m., while heading to the bathroom, a wild animal suddenly bit my leg. When I tried to free myself, it scratched me. After much effort, it fled and hid. I got treatment at the hospital, but the pain persists.”

Sukur Ali said, “As I was entering my house, the animal attacked me from behind, biting the upper part of my leg. When I tried to shake it off, it scratched various parts of my body, leaving me bloodied before running away.”

Abed Pramanik shared, “After hearing the news, I rushed home from the fields. When I tried to catch the animal, it bit and injured me too. But I held on to it. The gathered crowd then beat the animal to death.”

Rashedul Hasan Mamun, headteacher of Monowara Rokib Government Primary School, said, “This incident has created panic in the area. There’s suspicion that more such animals may be around. The children are terrified.”

Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Rizvi Ahmed advised, “In case of bites or scratches, don’t panic; get a rabies vaccine.” Jamalpur District Forest Guard Md. Ziaul Haque identified the animal as a ‘Gandhagokul,’ noting, “It’s generally a calm creature. It comes to human settlements in search of food. If fed, it may stay; if not, it leaves. But if provoked, it can turn aggressive.”
