10-Foot Burmese Python Rescued in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar

A 10-foot-long, 25-kg Burmese python was rescued from a mango tree in the courtyard of Abdur Rahim’s house in Napitpara, under the Dochhari Forest Beat of Ukhiya Range, Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division. On Saturday (August 16) around noon, the python was safely retrieved by Dochhari Beat Officer Imdadul Hasan Rony and released into the deep forest of Jarultali in the Ukhiya Sadar Forest Beat.

Ukhiya Range Officer Md. Abdul Mannan confirmed the incident, stating that a local woman spotted the python in the tree and raised an alarm, causing panic in the village. Upon receiving the information, the forest department promptly arrived at the scene and safely rescued the snake. He said, “This is a Burmese python, weighing approximately 25 kg and measuring 10 feet in length. The snake is completely healthy and has been released into its natural habitat.”

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division, Md. Nurul Islam, noted that over the past month, several large pythons have been found in various parts of the district. On June 22, a 14-foot-long, 25-kg Burmese python was rescued from a residential house in the Killamora Baganpara area of Ukhiya Sadar Beat and was later released into the Dochhari Reserve Forest.

Locals reported that the python had climbed a mango tree in Abdur Rahim’s courtyard. A woman’s scream upon spotting the snake alerted the community, prompting the forest department’s swift response. The successful rescue operation alleviated the villagers’ fears, and the python was safely returned to its natural environment.
