A tenth-grade schoolgirl was allegedly abducted after rejecting a marriage proposal. With no trace of her found even after three days, the girl’s father has filed a case against four individuals, including the prime accused, Robiul.
On Thursday, August 7, Judge Laylatul Ferdous of the Barguna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal accepted the case and directed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Amtali Police Station to register the FIR.
The accused are Robiul (23), son of Md. Nur Sayed Akon from Purbo Keoyabunia village in Amtali Upazila, his father Md. Nur Sayed Akon, his mother Aklima Begum, and Robiul’s friend Ariyan Gazi. This information was confirmed by Public Prosecutor Ronjuwara Sipu.
According to the complaint filed by the schoolgirl’s father, the girl is a student in the tenth grade at a local high school. Robiul had been harassing her with marriage proposals. When the girl informed her family about the harassment, her father visited Robiul’s home and warned his parents to stop him from troubling her. Feeling humiliated, Robiul allegedly planned to abduct the schoolgirl.
The girl’s father stated in the complaint, “On the morning of August 5, my daughter was on her way to private tuition. When she reached the paved road in front of our house, Robiul and his friend Ariyan Gazi intimidated her and abducted her in a microbus. I went to Robiul’s parents and demanded my daughter’s return. They promised to return her but did not. I fear that Robiul has detained my daughter somewhere and possibly raped her. I don’t even know if my daughter is alive. Despite searching for three days, I couldn’t find her.”
Robiul’s mobile phone has been switched off, making it impossible to contact him.
Amtali Police Station OC Dewan Jaglul Hasan said, “We have not yet received the court’s order. Once we receive it, legal action will be taken against the accused.”
