The announcement was made by Zahid Anwar, the campaign’s convener and director of Kagajbari, during a press conference held on Wednesday (August 6) morning at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
In a written statement, Zahid Anwar said, “The sacrifice of students and the public during the July Revolution is a glorious chapter in the nation’s history. This sacrifice will remain immortal in our national history. The 2024 revolution marks a turning point in the country’s history. The courageous youth, students, and ordinary people united to stand against injustice and inequality, advocating for their rights. The movement initially began with students protesting against long-standing grievances and discrimination over quota reforms. To honor their sacrifices, Kagajbari has taken the initiative to set a Guinness World Record, which we firmly believe will elevate the spirit of July and the new Bangladesh to unprecedented heights on the global stage.”
He added, “With the theme ‘Writing the Right to Education with the Blood of July,’ we have undertaken this noble initiative. To achieve this world record, we will distribute one month’s worth of educational materials to approximately 450,000 students across 1,500 schools nationwide within 12 hours, with a total weight of around 60,000 kilograms.”
The press conference highlighted that on May 22, 2022, ‘Gokuldham Nar’ from Gujarat, India, and ‘Helping Hands for Humanity Virginia’ from the USA jointly set a similar world record. They distributed over 400,000 notebooks across 1,019 schools in Gujarat’s Anand district within 24 hours, with a total weight of 56,505.40 kilograms.
Emphasizing the importance of setting a world record, the press conference noted that achieving a Guinness World Record brings international recognition, making the individual or organization unique and distinguished. Representing the country through a world record enhances its image, pride, and honor, spreading its fame globally. Moreover, setting a world record means etching a name in history, inspiring future generations to remember and follow.
Kagajbari aims to spread Bangladesh’s glory worldwide through this record while keeping alive the aspirations of the July movement and the spirit of the revolution across generations.
Kagajbari believes, “Independence is not just a flag; it means a notebook, a pen, and an opportunity in every student’s hand.” Inspired by the July spirit, a group of youths has taken the initiative to set an education-friendly world record for the first time in the country’s history.
Describing the campaign as more than just a world record but an educational movement, Zahid Anwar said, “We need the support of people from all walks of life to make this noble initiative successful. We also require the cooperation of government and non-government institutions, corporate entities, business groups, NGOs, civil society, and affluent individuals. We call on everyone to join this world record initiative through sponsorship or corporate social responsibility to bring pride to the nation. Your support will ensure educational materials reach lakhs of students, making you a part of the glory of achieving a Guinness World Record for the country. Participation in this initiative is not just about helping students—it’s an opportunity to make history. We urge everyone to be inspired by patriotism and become a witness to this historic endeavor.”
Speaking on behalf of the campaign’s advisory council, Dr. Atiar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Rangamati University of Science and Technology and a key advisor, said, “Kagajbari’s initiative to set a Guinness World Record Education Donation Campaign 2025 will keep the July Revolution alive. I feel truly privileged to be part of this initiative. My university and I personally will provide all kinds of support to make this campaign successful. I also call on all educational institutions, universities, and business groups in the country to join and support this initiative.”
The press conference also featured speeches by Saidul Islam, a member of the campaign implementation committee and executive director of the Center for Governance and Development (CGD), and Omar Faruk, executive director of the Global Knowledge Foundation. Present at the event were Kagajbari’s managing director Rezwan Kabir Kaushik, directors Md. Shah Alam, and AK Salman, along with other team members.
