The news became public on Friday morning (15 August), causing an uproar in the local community.
Shakil Ahmed, the accused, serves as an ASI at Chatmohar Police Station. He hails from Shahjadpur Upazila in Sirajganj and is a father of three children.
According to police and local sources, Masura Khatun, the wife of Saudi expatriate Shahidul Islam from Ramchandrapur village in Gunagacha Union, had visited the police station a few months ago for official work. During that visit, she reportedly became acquainted with ASI Shakil Ahmed. Sources allege that this acquaintance developed into an extramarital affair.
Recently, Masura Khatun reportedly left her in-laws’ house and began renting a room in Chowdhuripara, behind the police station, where Shakil Ahmed allegedly visited frequently. On Tuesday, Shakil Ahmed left the police station to appear in a court in Kushtia. Since then, both he and Masura Khatun have been missing. Shakil Ahmed was expected to return to the police station on Thursday, but as of Friday, he had not returned.
Masura Khatun’s father-in-law, Bazlur Rahman, filed a General Diary (GD) at the Chatmohar Police Station after failing to locate his daughter-in-law and learning about the alleged affair with ASI Shakil. Masura Khatun is a mother of two children.
Repeated attempts to contact ASI Shakil Ahmed by phone were unsuccessful as his phone remained switched off. Chatmohar Police Station OC Monjurul Alam could not be reached for comment.
However, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Chatmohar Circle) Arjuma Akter confirmed awareness of the matter and stated that the higher authorities have been informed. She added that Shakil Ahmed would face departmental action pending investigation.
