Chief Election Commissioner AAM Nasir Uddin has stated that intensive preparations are underway to hold the national election in February before Ramadan. He emphasized that if any polling station is captured, the votes of the entire center will be canceled.
He made these remarks on Saturday (August 23) during a meeting with election officials in Rajshahi.
At 10:00 AM on Saturday, during an exchange of views with election officials of the Rajshahi region regarding the 13th National Parliament Election, Nasir Uddin said, “We are not concerned with whether any political party thinks the election will happen or not. We are moving forward as per the instructions of the Chief Adviser. Preparations for the election have been intensified since receiving the Chief Adviser’s letter.”
He further stated, “There is no consideration for appointing district administrators or police superintendents who were previously involved in such activities. Those dreaming of capturing ballot boxes will have their dreams shattered. Forget the history of booth capturing.”
Regarding the proportional representation (PR) system, Nasir Uddin said, “There is no provision for such an electoral system in the Constitution. We cannot go beyond that. Political parties are debating this issue, but I do not wish to get involved in that discussion.”
On the participation of the Awami League, he added, “While the trial is ongoing, the Awami League will not be able to participate in the election. Let’s see what happens in the trial.”
