The verdict was announced on Wednesday (August 6) at 12 PM by Md. Ferdous Wahid, Judge of the Naogaon Additional District and Sessions Judge’s First Court.
The state was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Sabbir Ahmed, while the defense was represented by lawyers Amarendra Nath Ghosh, Sanjib Sarkar, and Nazmun Nahar.
The accused sentenced to life imprisonment are Abu Bakkar Siddique alias Siddique (absconding), Kadir alias Kader, and Amir Ali alias Amir. Those receiving varying terms of imprisonment include Durul Huda (absconding), Md. Semajul Islam, Tarikul Islam, Md. Abul Kashem, Md. Rezaul Karim, Md. Wazed Ali, Abul Kalam, and Md. Alim alias Alam. The acquitted individuals are Rafiqul Islam alias Rafiq, Mst. Kohinur Begum, Mst. Mariyam Bibi, and Mst. Kamela Begum.
According to the case’s First Information Report (FIR), on the morning of August 30, 2003, a clash broke out between two groups in Kalaibari village under Porsha police station, Naogaon, over a land dispute. The confrontation involved the use of local weapons such as sticks, sickles, and machetes. As a result, Shafiqul, Mizanur, Serina, Boiful, and Nargis Sultana were seriously injured. They were taken to Porsha Upazila Health Complex, where the condition of Shafiqul, Serina, and Nargis Sultana worsened, leading to their transfer to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. All three succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, an individual named Samad filed a case against 26 people at Porsha police station. The investigating officer later submitted a report against 16 individuals to the court. After a prolonged hearing, the court sentenced three to life imprisonment for the murders, eight others to various terms of imprisonment, and acquitted four. One accused, Sayeda, passed away during the trial.
