In the video, Imon compared Mankhali’s scenic landscapes to those of Switzerland, sparking widespread interest. Within days, the video garnered significant attention, prompting local media and content creators to produce more videos promoting the area as the ‘Switzerland of Cox’s Bazar.’ Locals have even put up a temporary signboard with this name, and the area is now seeing an influx of visitors.
Residents say the long-neglected village is finally in the spotlight. They believe Mankhali could significantly boost Cox’s Bazar’s tourism industry. Imrul Kaosar Imon, a senior reporter at Dainik Bhorer Dak and general secretary of the Rangpur Division Journalists Association, Dhaka (RDJA), stated, “Mankhali’s natural beauty is no less than Switzerland’s. Bangladesh’s tourism industry needs fresh initiatives. With proper maintenance, improved connectivity, and branding, Mankhali could become one of the country’s most attractive tourist destinations.”
Journalist Shafiqul Islam Jisan added, “Mankhali’s natural beauty has always had the potential to attract tourists, but it lacked publicity. Many visitors return after visiting Patuartek Beach without even knowing about Mankhali. The ‘Switzerland of Cox’s Bazar’ tag has now created new possibilities.”
Selim Uddin Siraji, former joint secretary of Ukhia Upazila BNP, remarked, “Mankhali is a historic village with immense tourism potential. Imon’s video has created a buzz in the area. With government attention, Mankhali could become Cox’s Bazar’s most popular tourist spot.”
The local community is optimistic, hoping that infrastructure development by the government and local authorities will transform Mankhali into an international-standard tourism destination.
