Man Accused of Attempting to Bury Wife Alive in Sherpur’s Sribordi

In a shocking incident in Sribordi, Sherpur, a man named Khalilur Rahman has been accused of attempting to bury his living wife, Khorsheda Begum (60), alive. Sources say the act was motivated by the prolonged illness of his wife. The accused has been absconding since the incident.

The incident took place on Friday (August 8) morning in Khushalpur Madhyapara village of Kakila Kura Union in Sribordi Upazila. The couple reportedly has four children.

A video of the attempt to bury Khorsheda Begum alive has gone viral on the social media platform Facebook, sparking widespread outrage.

Sribordi Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Zahid stated that on Friday morning, Khalilur, a farmer, dragged his ailing wife from their home to the courtyard. There, he assaulted her and attempted to bury her alive by digging a pit. Upon receiving information, police visited the scene around 11:00 PM, but the accused had already fled.

The OC further informed that one of Khalilur’s sons lives abroad, and his three daughters are married. The children reportedly do not keep in touch with their parents. Financial struggles in the household, coupled with Khorsheda’s six-year-long bedridden condition, had left Khalilur in mental distress. This is believed to have driven him to commit such an act.

He added, “Attempting to bury a living person is inhumane and a punishable offense. If a formal complaint is lodged, we will take action against the accused.”
