The incident occurred on Thursday (August 7, 2025) around 8:00 PM when Tuhin was attacked over a dispute related to recording a video. Tuhin, a staff reporter for the Daily Pratidiner Kagoj, hailed from Bhatipara village in Fulbaria Upazila, Mymensingh. He lived with his family in the Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur city.
Tuhin’s elder brother, Md. Selim, filed a case at Basan Police Station on Friday morning, naming 20 to 25 unidentified individuals as accused. According to police sources, Tuhin was chased by a group of miscreants armed with sharp weapons in the Chandana Chowrasta area. Seeking refuge, he entered a tea stall in Eidgah Market, but the assailants followed him inside and brutally attacked him, leading to his death. The perpetrators fled the scene immediately after.
Shortly after the incident, police obtained CCTV footage from a local business establishment, which showed the individuals involved in the killing. Based on this evidence, five suspects were detained on Thursday night during raids across various parts of the city. On Friday night around 10:00 PM, police arrested Ketu Mizan and his wife Golapi from Bhabanipur in Gazipur Sadar Upazila. Another team apprehended Swadhin from an area near Gazipur city, while Al Amin was arrested from the Turag Thana area. Shahjalal was detained from Gafargaon in Mymensingh, and Sumon and Foysal were arrested from the Basan area.
Deputy Commissioner Rabiul Hasan stated, “The CCTV footage helped identify those involved in the incident. Three police teams conducted operations in different areas to apprehend the suspects. All those arrested are linked to the journalist’s murder. They are currently under interrogation to determine the exact motive behind the killing. Further details will be shared in a press conference.”
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with journalists and local organizations demanding justice for Tuhin’s killing.
