Significant progress has been made in the investigation of the murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur’s Chandana Chowrasta area. The police have revealed that the incident originated from a honeytrap. Five suspects have been detained, and their identification is being verified through CCTV footage analysis.
Deputy Commissioner (Crime) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Robiul Hasan, confirmed, “We are conducting the investigation with utmost caution to ensure no innocent person is implicated in this case.” He stated that on Thursday (August 7) around 8:00 PM, Tuhin was brutally hacked to death in public in front of the Masjid Market in Chandana Chowrasta. A murder case was filed at Basan Thana the following morning, naming 20 to 25 unidentified individuals as accused.
The investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a honeytrap. A woman named Golapi lured a man named Badsha into a trap. Armed youths accompanying her then attacked Badsha with machetes. Journalist Tuhin, who was nearby, recorded the scene on his mobile phone. At that moment, the assailants targeted him and killed him with sharp weapons.
DC Robiul Hasan further noted, “CCTV footage shows a bearded individual wearing a cap, identified as Faisal alias Ketu Mizan, running with a machete in hand. Others, including Shahjamal, Bullet, and Sujan, have also been identified. Efforts are ongoing to confirm the identities of the remaining suspects.” Multiple police teams are currently conducting operations to apprehend the fugitive Golapi and the identified suspects.
The deceased, Asaduzzaman Tuhin, was a staff reporter for the daily Protidiner Kagoj in Gazipur. Originally from Bhatipara village in Fulbaria Upazila, Mymensingh, he lived with his wife and two children in the Chandana Chowrasta area.
