The incident occurred around 12 PM on Friday near Dewanhat Mor in the Double Mooring Thana area. According to police and eyewitnesses, just before the Friday prayers, the woman, who appeared to be mentally unstable, was seen writhing in labor pain on the roadside. Within minutes, she gave birth to a baby. A traffic sergeant on duty, with the assistance of a Chattogram district police ambulance, promptly transported the mother and newborn to the gynecology ward of CMCH. Traffic Sergeant Zahidur Rahman accompanied them in the ambulance.
Zahidur Rahman recounted, “While on duty at Dewanhat Mor, I was informed about the situation by a colleague. When I reached the spot, I saw both the mother and the baby in distress. I called out to bystanders for help, but no one came forward. I then used a cloth to provide some privacy to the area. At that moment, I stopped a district police ambulance heading toward Agrabad and ensured the mother and baby were taken to CMCH, where they were admitted to the gynecology ward on the sixth floor.”
The swift response by the traffic police has been praised, and authorities are working to gather more information about the woman’s identity and circumstances to provide further assistance.
