Gas Leak Explosion in Tongi: Three of a Family Burned, Infant Dies

A gas line leak triggered an explosion in Tongi, Gazipur City, leaving three members of a family severely burned, with a four-month-old infant named Rayhan succumbing to injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday (August 3) morning in the Mirer Bazar area. Doctors have reported that the condition of the other two victims remains critical.

The injured are Mohammad Ripon (25), the father of the deceased infant, and Hafiza Akter (20), the mother. Following the explosion, neighbors rescued them and rushed them to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, a residential surgeon at the institute, stated that the three were brought to the hospital around 7:30 AM in a severely burned condition. After examination, four-month-old Rayhan was declared dead. Mohammad Ripon sustained burns over 80% of his body, while Hafiza Akter suffered burns over 70% of her body. Both remain in critical condition.

According to police and local sources, the explosion occurred due to a gas leak that had accumulated in the house. The fire broke out when the stove was lit for cooking in the morning. Tongi Police Station has initiated an investigation into the incident.
