In a shocking incident in Dhawas village of Thalta Majhgram Union, Nandigram Upazila, Bogura, Parvin Akter, the wife of expatriate Israful Hossen, has allegedly fled with her lover, taking 80 lakh taka that Israful had saved over 13 years. The incident occurred recently, and on Saturday (August 16), Nandigram Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaharul Islam confirmed that Israful filed a complaint against his wife and nine others to recover the money.
The accused include Israful’s wife Parvin Akter, her sister Sabina Begum, brothers Abdur Rouf and Bulbul Hossen, brother-in-law Mizanur Rahman, sisters-in-law Chhaoda Begum and Beauty Begum, father Ekabbar Hossen, and Parvin’s lover Hasan Ali.
According to police and complaint sources, Israful, son of Farid Hossen from Dhawas village, married Parvin Akter approximately 16 years ago. Three years after their marriage, following his wife’s advice, Israful migrated to Malaysia. Over 13 years of hard work, he deposited around 80 lakh taka into his wife’s bank account. Meanwhile, taking advantage of Israful’s prolonged absence, Parvin allegedly began an extramarital affair with Hasan Ali. Upon learning of Israful’s return to Bangladesh, Parvin divorced him and fled with her lover.
Even after receiving divorce papers, Israful maintained contact with Parvin, demanding the return of the money he had sent from abroad. However, Parvin reportedly made excuses and delayed returning the funds. Israful stated, “While I was in Malaysia, Parvin got involved in an affair. She repeatedly discouraged me from returning to Bangladesh with various excuses. When I insisted on coming back, she divorced me under the influence of her lover and family members and married Hasan Ali. She has refused to return the 80 lakh taka I sent to her account. Left with no choice, I’ve sought legal recourse and approached village elders for help.”
When contacted, Parvin and her family members claimed they would soon return Israful’s money and any property purchased with it, but they requested some time to do so.
OC Mozaharul Islam of Nandigram Police Station said, “An investigation is underway regarding this matter. If the allegations are found to be true, legal action will be taken against those involved.”
