Bangladesh Signs $150 Million Loan Agreement with ADB to Boost TVET Sector

To enhance access to decent employment and boost global competitiveness, the Government of Bangladesh has signed a $150 million loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to improve the country's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

The agreement was signed on Sunday (August 3) at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) office in Dhaka by Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of ERD, and Ho Yoo Jung, Country Director of ADB.

According to Ho Yoo Jung, the initiative supports Bangladesh's goal of economic diversification and focuses on five key technology clusters: mechanical, electronics and electrical, information and communication technology (ICT), civil, and food and agriculture.

He stated that the program will promote access to decent jobs, address income inequality, and empower marginalized communities. Under the “TVET Teachers for the Future Program,” the project will strengthen modern teacher training outside Dhaka, enhance teaching and technical skills, and improve teacher management and reporting systems.

By the end of the project, at least 10,000 new and existing TVET teachers will receive advanced training, benefiting around 250,000 students. A sustainable national professional development framework will also be established to ensure the quality and relevance of technical education.

ADB, a leading multilateral development bank in the Asia-Pacific region, continues to support inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development by partnering with its member countries to improve quality of life, build infrastructure, and protect the planet.
