In a brutal incident, Mizanur Rahman Abhi (35), a battery-operated auto-rickshaw driver, was shot and hacked to death by miscreants in Chandpur’s Matlab North Upazila. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (August 13) in the Hashimpur Bokultala area of Eklaspur Union.
Mizanur Rahman Abhi, son of Fazlul Haque from Eklaspur village, lived with his family in Narayanganj. According to local sources and police, Abhi had recently returned to his village from Narayanganj. He was reportedly involved in a feud with Nahid Gazi, a local figure, over dominance in the area. Nahid Gazi is known as an active member of a professional robbery and terrorist gang, with multiple robbery cases pending against him in court.
On Wednesday morning, a local named Kamal spotted Abhi lying in a pool of blood on the road while heading to Eklaspur Ghat and informed others. Locals rushed him to the Matlab North Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Matlab North Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Robiul Haque told Kalbela that upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. The deceased had multiple injuries on his body and a gunshot wound to the head. Preliminary investigations suggest the murder stemmed from a prior dispute. A special operation is underway to apprehend those involved.
Chandpur Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib told Kalbela that the deceased was a drug addict and had a drug-related case against him. He also had conflicts with a local group over various issues. A thorough investigation is ongoing, and those responsible will be brought to justice.
