A gang of miscreants broke into the vault of the Krishi Bank Purbo Rupsa Branch in Rupsa Upazila, Khulna, and looted approximately 16 lakh taka. The incident is believed to have occurred on the night of Friday, August 15. However, no suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery so far.
According to local sources, the bank was closed after the last working day of the week on Thursday, August 14. Locals claim there was no security guard present at the bank that night. On Friday night around 10 PM, the security guard noticed that the collapsible gate’s lock at the main entrance had been cut and raised an alarm. Hearing his cries, locals rushed to the scene and informed the Rupsa Police Station. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the site and initiated an investigation.
The branch manager, Kamrul Islam, confirmed that approximately 16 lakh 16 thousand taka was stored in the vault, all of which was stolen. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupsa Police Station, stated, “The bank was closed on Thursday afternoon. The incident could have occurred any time between then and 10:30 PM on Friday. We have collected CCTV footage from the bank and nearby areas, and a thorough analysis is underway. No leniency will be shown to those involved in this crime.” He further noted that the absence of a security guard on Thursday night provided an opportunity for the miscreants to carry out the heist.
