Woman Sent to Jail for Filing False Dowry Case with Forged Marriage Document in Gopalganj

A woman named Shabikun Nahar Parul (39) has been sent to jail by a Gopalganj court for filing a false dowry case using a forged marriage document. The order was issued by Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmita Pia on July 27, 2025.

Parul, daughter of Sheikh Abul Hashem from Kashiani upazila, is a widow whose husband, Yasin Sheikh, passed away in 2014. She has two sons. The case was confirmed by Public Prosecutor MA Alam Selim.

According to court documents and sources, in May 2025, Parul filed a dowry case against Md. Sabuj Al Sahba (31), a resident of Kashiani Sadar, claiming he was her husband and that their marriage was solemnized with a dowry of Tk 1 million. Based on this complaint, the court initially sent Sabuj to jail when he appeared for a hearing. He was released on bail after three days.

Subsequently, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigated the case and submitted a report to the court, finding no evidence to support Parul’s claims. Following this, Sabuj filed a case against Parul, accusing her of fraud and forgery. On Sunday, Parul appeared in court seeking bail through her lawyer, but the magistrate rejected the plea and ordered her imprisonment.

Public Prosecutor MA Alam Selim stated, “The dowry case was proven false in court. Based on the subsequent case filed by the victim, the court ordered the woman to be sent to jail.”
