Al Habib, the only child of Ashraful Islam and Happy Akter from the Shilaikuthi area, was discovered around 8:00 PM, approximately 100 yards from his home, in a doorless toilet filled with stacked bricks and stones. His shirt was found twisted and tied around his neck, and police noted an injury mark on the back of his head. The Tetulia Model Police Station recovered the body late that night and took it to the station by midnight after completing preliminary formalities.
According to Buraburi Union Parishad Chairman Tarek Hossain, Al Habib went out to play with neighboring children in the afternoon. When he did not return by evening, his family began searching for him. After hours of searching, relatives found his body in the abandoned toilet. Locals promptly informed the police, who arrived at the scene to recover the body.
Tarek Hossain added that Al Habib’s father, Ashraful Islam, a former electrician, has been bedridden for nearly two years following a severe injury from falling off an electric pole. The family has since been struggling financially, living in dire poverty.
Tetulia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Musa Mia confirmed on Wednesday morning that the boy’s body was found with his shirt wrapped around his neck and a visible injury on the back of his head. “We suspect he was strangled and left in the abandoned toilet,” he said. The body has been sent to the morgue at Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and further details are awaited pending the autopsy report.
