Uttara Warplane Crash: The Courageous Story of Teenager Nabil Hasan

The story of Nabil Hasan, a teenager injured in the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training jet at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, has left many in awe. A seventh-grader in the English version of the school, Nabil suffered burns to 60% of his body but displayed remarkable courage. His sister, Nasrin Sultana, told Prothom Alo, “Hearing a loud explosion, Nabil came out of the restroom. But as he crossed the door, a fireball engulfed him, and everything went dark.”

Nabil was in the school’s restroom, located some distance from his classroom, when the F-7 BGI jet crashed on Monday, July 21, 2025. After hearing the explosion, he stepped out, only to be severely burned by the flames. A teacher rescued him, though she herself was injured in the process. Nasrin, a former student of Milestone School and College, said, “Despite being burned, the teacher rushed to save other students. Nabil, on his own, took a rickshaw to Uttara Adhunik Hospital, but he lost consciousness shortly after arriving.”

Nabil’s family hails from Ward 8 of Haramia Union in Sandwip, Chattogram. He is the youngest of three siblings and the son of Nizam Uddin, a contractor. The family resides in Sector 12, Uttara. Nizam told Prothom Alo, “On the day of the incident, at 1:10 PM, I received a call from the school. A teacher informed me that a plane had crashed and my son was in critical condition. I was stunned and rushed to the school with my wife and daughter.”

Nizam added, “Many told me my son, with his body burned and no clothes left, took a rickshaw to the hospital alone. I am overwhelmed and proud of his courage.” Nabil was later transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

On Tuesday, a somber atmosphere enveloped Nabil’s village home in Sandwip. Relatives shared that he had been moved to the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU). Doctors reported that, despite 60% burns, his condition is somewhat stable. Nabil’s aunt, Amena Begum, said, “Nabil is a cheerful and lively boy. Hearing about his condition, everyone broke down in tears.”

Regarding Nabil’s current condition, Nizam told Prothom Alo, “His dressing was done this morning. He is now able to speak a little. Please pray for my son’s recovery.”
