Husband and Wife’s Bodies Recovered from Home in Nawabganj’s Porsha, Suspected Murder-Suicide Linked to Family Dispute

Police have recovered the bodies of a husband and wife from their home in Shitli Fakirpara village, Porsha upazila, Nawabganj, today, Wednesday (July 23, 2025), around 9 AM. The deceased have been identified as Hai Babu (47), son of Abdul Jabbar, and his wife Momena Begum (35), both residents of the same village. The couple is survived by their two daughters, aged 8 and 6.

According to police and local sources, on Tuesday night, Hai Babu and Momena Begum went to sleep as usual, while their two daughters were sleeping in an adjacent room. On Wednesday morning, their younger daughter woke up to find her mother’s lifeless body on the bed and her father’s body hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling beam. She alerted neighbors, who found the couple deceased upon entering the house. Police were informed and recovered the bodies.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Porsha Police Station, Abu Bakkar Siddique, stated that the bodies were retrieved following information from locals and sent to the morgue at Naogaon Sadar Hospital for autopsy. He added, “The exact cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report. However, preliminary investigations suggest that, due to a family dispute, Hai Babu may have strangled his wife Momena Begum to death before taking his own life by hanging.”
