A case has been filed against approximately 1,200 individuals for allegedly entering the Bangladesh Secretariat, vandalizing vehicles, and attempting murder. On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Saifuzzaman’s court accepted the case’s First Information Report (FIR) and ordered the submission of an investigation report by August 28.
On Tuesday night, Sub-Inspector Golam Mukti Mahmud from the DMP’s Bangladesh Secretariat Security Division filed the case as the plaintiff. The accused include unidentified students from various colleges and miscreants with vested interests.
According to the case allegations, on July 22, around 1,000 to 1,200 students and opportunistic miscreants, centered around a tragic incident at Milestone Educational Institution, organized a “March to Education Ministry” program, demanding the postponement of HSC exams among other issues. Initially, the students marched toward the Education Board and Education Building but later gathered in front of the Secretariat, targeting the Education Ministry.
For security reasons, all gates of the Secretariat were closed, and the students were repeatedly requested not to enter. However, they broke through police barricades, reached the main gate of the Shahbag Secretariat, caused a riot, and entered by breaking the gate. When obstructed, they attacked law enforcement personnel, including police, army, and Ansar members, with sticks, bricks, and stones, with the intent to kill, resulting in several serious injuries.
Additionally, they vandalized government vehicles, causing damage, and issued various threats and intimidations.
