In Habiganj town’s Chander Hansi Hospital area, locals apprehended two women attempting to flee after snatching a gold chain from a pedestrian and handed them over to the police. The incident occurred around 1 PM on Saturday (July 19).
The arrested women are Kulsuma Begum (28), wife of Sadeq Miah, and Hanufa Begum (42), wife of Palan Miah, both from Dharandal village in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria.
According to police and eyewitnesses, a female pedestrian was standing in front of the hospital when she suddenly noticed her gold chain was missing. Suspecting two women on a nearby easy-bike, she raised an alarm. Locals stopped the easy-bike, detained the women, and recovered the chain after a search. Upon receiving the information, Sub-Inspector (SI) Aulad Hossain from Sadar Model Police Station arrived at the scene and took the women to the station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Shahabuddin Shahin of the police station said, “Two women have been detained on charges of snatching. The victim has not yet filed a written complaint. If no complaint is received, they will be sent to court under Section 151.”
Police stated that women from Dharandal village frequently roam clothing and cosmetic shops in the town and engage in pickpocketing or snatching whenever they get the opportunity. Previously, several individuals from the same village have been arrested and jailed for similar offenses.
